Just south of the lodge lies the small village of Ambodiforaha. The 110 or so Betsimisaraka people fish and cultivate vanilla, cloves and coffee.

Rice, their staple food, is eaten with Ro. Fary coffee is prepared with boiling sugarcane juice and the local alcohol is known as Betsa Betsa.
